Literacy Project #1:
Name: The Dictionary Project
Description: Dictionaries were given in September 2006 to 390 3rd grade students in Ottumwa’s eight public and two private schools. Fifteen minute presentations, highlighting some of the many dictionary features, enhanced this project. Each teacher was also given a copy to plan dictionary lessons. One Rotary legacy proudly showed her dictionary to her Dad, happily exclaiming the gift was from the "Rodeo Club". |

Literacy Project #3:
Name: Earn to Learn Reading
Description: Six Rotarian volunteers have agreed to a school year’s commitment to read one on one with 72 local 5th graders, one hour each Monday after our regular Rotary meeting. The need for reader mentoring is primary but the need for adult attention, one on one, is equally important and appreciated. Last year $200 was awarded to participating students and we anticipate a similar amount this school year. |
