District 6000 Annual Convention

District 6000 Annual Convention will be held this year at the Gateway Center in Ames on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1.  District Governor, Denny Skinner's home club of Nevada is the host and the Ames and Boone clubs are co-hosts.  Dave Benson and Sandy Horton are coordinating our club's involvement which will include organizing the Friday evening hospitality dinners.  They are looking for Rotarians to host dinners at their homes from about 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  You can sign up for hosting as many as you wish and it could be a sit-down dinner for 6 or a BBQ for 30.  The emphasis is on families, so we'll also need some of the sites to include children.  Contact them for further information.  Also needed will be volunteers for the Ames Information desk and general help with activities at the convention.

Carolyn Jons is on the convention planning committee and will be concentrating on literacy events, including workshops and a chance for Rotarians and families to help organize materials for the Xicopetec, Mexico literacy project.

The Friday noon luncheon is a highlight with a featured speaker and parade of flags with exchange students carrying the flags of their home country.  Plan to attend.

More information later.

Prospective Rotarian

Carolyn Jons has proposed Tanya Anderson of the First National Bank for membership.  She will visit the club on Wednesday, February 4.  If approved by the Club and the Board of Directors, she will be inducted at the same time as Carol Elbert, on February 11.  Any comments should be sent to President Dean Harms (deanmharms@aol.com).

Bed and Breakfast for District 6000 Rotarians

Chelon Stanzel is updating the list of homes available as a Bed and Breakfast so it is ready for the District 6000 Convention.  As a reminder, the hosts get a $50 credit per night toward their contribution to the Foundation.  The guest pays $50 a night to the Foundation for the room and board.  Please let Chelon know if you have a room available and would like to be added to the list.
